The Rev. Al Sharpton is in Chicago speaking out against gun violence.
The civil rights activist and talk show host spent Sunday morning preaching at Trinity United Church of Christ, a prominent church on Chicago’s South Side where President Barack Obama used to attend services. Sharpton plans to hold a news conference later with local activists and ministers.
Sharpton has been in Chicago several times this year. The head of the National Action Network has plans to live in the city and bring attention to the violence problem.
Sharpton has said that he hopes to work with activists on the ground, but hasn’t given many details about his plans.
Chicago has a high homicide race compared with other major cities, even though the number is down compared with last year.
